1. Watch films, if baby is quiet, feeding or asleep.
2. Play games on iPhone. Curse accelerometer every time you hit turbulence.
3. Sleep, taking care not to drop the baby.
4. Amuse yourself by using Pano app to take panoramic shots of the cabin.
5. Play Poke-the-Nose with baby.
6. Feed baby. Repeat.
7. Play about with electric seats.
8. Read books, e- or otherwise. Realize you no longer have an analytical brain as you just can’t see why the hell ‘The Metamorphosis’ is such a big deal. He turns into a cockroach, stays that way, and then dies. Point???
9. Look at the fluffy pink clouds outside the window. I have not been binging on the free wine; they really are pink!
10. Blog of course! (silly!)

I miss…
October 21, 2007 · Leave a Comment
Getting a bit homesick, probably because fall is my favourite time of year at home in Canada. So, I miss…
- Wunderbars. Been on a peanut butter kick lately, and they’re odd, but good…
- my mom and dad’s sunroom, which is weird since they built it after I moved here, but there you are.
- Thankgiving! It’s depressing that I completely missed it this year, despite being reminded by mom. Got to Wednesday, and realised that I had wanted to cook something appropriate on the Monday night… (That’s Canadian Thanksgiving, people, which is about giving thanks, as opposed to the American Thankgiving, which is about shopping….
) - School. Not teaching, but the going to school and meeting your new teachers, and having new stationery in your bag and all that. So sue me; I’m just sad…
- Meg. She’s fat and she’s a bitch, but hey, she’s my cat. As opposed to Sophie, who’s our cat…
- The ranch. Harvest is always the time of year that makes or breaks you, and I miss all the tension, and the amazing food that’s cooked for the guys who come to help out, and Mom’s apple pie. And Marg, who is a force of nature.
- My truck. And hey, Dad sold it 5 years ago…
- Is it actually possible to miss high school? 15 years after the fact??
- People who get peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
- proper Cheerios – not the multigrain crap…
- deer in the front yard
- snow
- space – I grew up on the prairies, you know…
- just being a kid
Hmmm… roll on growing up, I guess…

So, we’re back. We’ve been in France for a week, at Taize and other places around Burgundy, staying in La Petit Maison, a cottage owned by this guy we know, and generally having a relaxed time with rather a lot of wine consumption and other stuff. As I’ve now got my own Flickr account (and my own camera!), you’ve got two lots of photos to troll through – mine and Richard’s! Hopefully we didn’t take TOO many duplicates…
I did have a lovely time, even though it rained almost all week, and we broke out the wool blankets and many cups of tea on Thursday – I would have liked to have had cocoa, but that would have meant going out again – brrr… Richard did overhear some guys grumbling in Geneva airport on the way home that they had expected a nice summer walking holiday in the Alps – not snow (!) …
I’m actually still quite tired – I think I need a holiday from my holiday – and although I’m really looking forward to seeing my family at my cousin Jeff’s wedding in two weeks, I can’t even contemplate traveling again just yet! I hope I don’t feel like this when we get back from Toronto, as I’ve got to work on the Monday! Maybe I’ll distract myself with a little hairpin lace crochet and lovely yarns like this… or maybe this… No! Wait! This! Oh, I can’t decide…
